Larine Baratta is an American author. “Horsing Around in the Barnyard” is her first children’s book, one of a series. The series “The Big Playhouse” encourages pretend play which is as important as teaching our children the ABC’s. Imaginary play is one of the hallmark characteristics of childhood. In “The Big Playhouse” we bring dramatic play back to our children. In addition to writing children’s books, she is deeply interested in design- ing and creating fashion jewelry. Marshalla Ramos is an English as a Second Language teacher, poet and Mom from Brooklyn, New York. She enjoys reading historical fiction, writing and spending time with her family. Isabella’s Hair and How She Learned to Love It is the author’s first published children’s book. The book was written out of a desire to respond to the issues surrounding self image within the Afro-Latino community and to contribute to multi-cultural protagonists being represented in children’s literature.

DESCRIPTION:
Isabella’s Hair and How She Learned to Love It is a story about Isabella, a young girl who lives in Carolina, Puerto Rico. As an Afro-Boricua child, Isabella struggles with understanding the beauty of her natural hair and the color brown. Her grandmother serves as an inspiration towards self acceptance and love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Vanessa Scott was born on November 1st 1985 in Bossier city, LA. Parents Virginia and Kenneth were of different origins, mother being Mexican and my father African American. Vanessa has two brother and two sisters. The Scott Kids grew up an army brat; their father was in the Air Force too. Vanessa spent three years of her life in Madrid Spain when they moved she was a year and five months old. In July 1990, just after Desert Strom began, The Scott’s moved to Vandenberg, Air Force Base, California From there they moved to Las Cruces on May 13,1993, were Vanessa attended Elementary, middle, High School and college. Vanessa and her family are very family oriented and all the Scott kids have a family of their own except for the oldest Jay.
